As I said before, all the street food vendors have been rounded up into hawker centers, each one centered in a neighborhood. I have been to two hawker centers so far. Here are a few pictures. The top picture is my grand nephews Nikita (12 years) and Glen (16 years), the other are Glen choosing food and holding our bags. Glen was a great help as he speaks Mandarin. Singpore students are required to learn English (as a first language) and one of the other 3 official languages (called mother tounges) Mandarin, Malay or Tamil. Glen chose Mandarin.
The picture second from the bottom is fried mushrooms, which I ordered. The bottom picture is fried chicken feet which I did not order. That particular stand specialized in fried feet, chicken, duck, pig, who knows what else, I was afraid to ask! The prawn crackers were 4-6 whole shrimp, head tails, legs and everything else a shrimp has and put in some kind of a dough then deep fried. I didn't try that either, looked way too crunchy.

I saw "that old lady with the tissue packets" mentioned in the article last night! Now I know what she was doing.
